Easy-Intermediate Ride on Wonderland, Advanced Ride on Cheshire Cat

June 24th, 2009 · No Comments · Dirt Divas

Date: June 25, 2008

Time: 6:30 pm at the corner of Hwy 99 and Depot.

Place:  corner of Hwy 99 and Depot

Ride Length: 1-2 hrs

This week’s routes:

Easy Intermediate:

Up Ray Peters, down Wonderland

Advanced:

Up Ray Peters then Hwy 99 to the cat Lake turn off. Up the gravel road to Cat Lake. The climb takes between 20-25 minutes from the Alice Lake turn off. Down Cheshire Cat, Cheshire Kitten, and Wonderland (if we have the energy!)

Trails:

Ray Peters

Ray Peters is a double track gravel trail. The section we will be riding parallels Hwy 99 and provides a gentle climb to Squamish Valley Highway.

Wonderland

The trail is rough and bumpy with a lot of tight turns and narrow spots, but it isn’t terribly steep so it is a good challenge for an advanced beginner mountain biker or beginner intermediate biker. It is best ridden when dry as it can get quite muddy and slippery when wet. Some recent trail work has smoothed out the rougher bits and filled in the worst of the muddy dips.

The trail parallels a small creek for a ways, this can be unnerving. remember to look where you want to go-this will help keep you on the trail!

Wonderland has roots, logs, and a few bridges to cross. We will stop at any difficult sections to encourage each other.

Cheshire Cat

If you enjoy steep climbs and descents, this is the trail for you! The climbs are steeper than those on Word of Mouth but the descents are similar. One section near the end can be very loose, but should be in good shape with the rain we are having. There is an optional log ride part way along the trail and a mandatory bridge over Brohm Creek – I recommend walking this! You will know why when you see it.

Cheshire Kitten

This is a short blue trail that runs along the highway from near the end of Cheshire Cat to the Cheekye bridge. It’s a fun little section and sure beats riding back down the highway!

See you on Thursday!
