July 16th, 2009 · No Comments · Dirt Divas

Ride Date: July 16

Time: 6:30 PM

Meeting Place: Yellow gate at the end of Perth

Ride Length: 2 hours

Routes:

Difficulty: Easy-Intermediate

This week’s ride will link together a few short trails into a long loop. The route goes up Mashiter trail, down Rock n Roll, around Dead End Loop, and down Bob MacIntosh Memorial trail. From here the group will have the option of either going down Jack’s Trail or Tracks from Hell and Mashiter. The trails are generally easy with some short sections of more technical bits to keep you challenged. Be ready to ride uphill for at least one hour.

Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced

This week we will ride up Mashiter Trail, Tracks from Hell, and Mike’s Loop then onto Credit Line and down Jack’s Trail. All trails are designated as blues (intermediate) except for Jack’s which is a green trail and Credit Line which is a black.

Trails:

Mashiter Trail

This is an old logging road that provides great access to many of the trails near Alice Lake Park. Ridden from The Highlands, it has a moderate uphill grade and will keep you in the shade most of the way. Perfect for hot summer days!

Jack’s Trail: this single track trail climbs at a moderate grade to Alice lake Park. It has a few rooty sections and one short bridge.

Dead End Loop:A nice little loop that is mostly smooth single track with a few short rooty or rocky climbs. Remember to shift your weight forward when climbing to keep your front wheel from popping up.

Rock n Roll: This is a short trail that connects The Corners to the Bob MacIntosh memorial Trail. It is fairly smooth with some wide switchbacks. Remember to use both brakes so you don’t slide around the corners.

Bob MacIntosh Memorial:Is fairly smooth double track that descends (with one short uphill section) from Dead End Loop to Edith Lake.

Track’s From Hell: This trail was built along an old train track that was used when they logged the Edith Lake area. Originally it was quite bumpy as the railway ties were exposed. Thus the name. Trail work over the last few years has smoothed out these bumps and bridged some of the more muddy areas. The bridges are generally short and over a foot wide. If it is your first time riding it, it’s always a good idea to stop and check out the bridges before riding them. There is one long bridge over the swamp – if you ride it make sure to keep your head up and look ahead! –This will help you avoid the “wobbles”.

Mike’s Loop: A short cross country trail that leads from Edith Lake past Credit Line and towards Entrails. The climb can be a bit challenging in the rooty sections.

Credit Line: Those of you who know Jim Harvey’s trails know that he likes to build trails that combine challenging climbs and descents. This trail is no exception. The first descent is quite steep and technical. This is followed by a steep climb which is followed by another descent…. Well, you get the picture. Be prepared to pedal! The trail finishes up with some lovely long switchbacks through the woods.
