Length: 2 hours

We had 5 hard core ladies show up to ride the Powerhouse Plunge last week. The ride was challenging as it was a bit slippery due to the rain. Fortunately, the worst of the rain held off until we were finished and on our way to the Burrow for well-deserved appies and drinks!

This week (Thursday, August 7) we will ride the Squamish Valley Golf Course trails, Discovery Trail, and Logger’s Creek Trail. This is a nice mellow ride with very little elevation gain or loss. (I have ridden all of these trails on my cruiser bike.)

It’s a great chance for those of you who have been wanting to come out but aren’t sure about your ability. Everyone is welcome!

We will meet at the Tantalus bike shop at 6:00 pm as usual. If you can’t make it on time, you can always meet us at Gelato Carina around 7:00 pm.

Golf Course Trails

From the bike shop, we will ride across Mamquam Road, then explore the Golf Course trails. These trails will bring us under the highway and up onto Government Road. From there, we cross Government and head down a short paved road to Discovery Trail.

When we are ready to go again, we will head back up Cleveland, cross the highway at the lights, head up Logger’s lane for a short distance, then onto logger’s Creek trail.

This trail will take us past the Recreation Centre, then back to the highway by the Mamquam Bridge. After we cross the bridge, it is just a short ride back to Tantalus.

In total, the ride should take around two hours.

Here is our 2008 Calendar of Toonie Races. All races will end with
a sponsored feast.See Youth News for the Loonie Race Schedule or
July 30, Wed :: Toonie, Sponsored by Donna McMurtry

               Group
Aug 27, Wed :: Volunteers Only Toonie Race, Sponsored by SORCA

Sep 6, Sat :: Final Toonie. Sponsored by Brackendale Bistro

A few words from Toonie Director Ian Lowe

OK for the Toonies, here are a few points that I would like to
communicate:

13 races in this years schedule

Points will be given out in same fashion as last year with:
First female being awarded 10 points, second, 9 points, all the way to 9th getting 2 points, then all other finishers getting 1 point.
Mens winner gets 20 points, down to 19th getting 2 points and all other finishers getting 1 point.
For overall results, top 11 races over the season are counted
First and last races are double points or ’supertoonies’
This years 12th race will only be eligible for ridersthat have volunteered for one of the previous rides
over the season and will be hosted by SORCA complete with Cliff/ Curtis signature BBQ, and many, many prizes!!!
First race will be on April 5th starting at 2:00pm
(it may be bumped back a half hour dependant on when
the DH guys do their race) and will be sponsored by Squamish
Golf Club
Races will be slightly shorter than in 2007 to ensure everyone gets a chance to get hot food at the after-parties

Come on out for a non-competitive ride and get to know your fellow SORCA members. The approximately one hour ride is followed by a BBQ where you’ll join up with the Downhillers for a social.

These rides are held every second Wednesday. For dates go to the Events Calendar or sorca.ca. For the Sorca site make sure you use the .ca as I have been told that the .com site is a porno site.

Sign On is usually 6:00 pm with the ride starting at 6:30 pm. $2 to Ride. Must be a member of SORCA or other GRMBA Affiliated club.

This weeks social. Meet at the turn-around at the top of Hemlock Street in Valleycliffe, close to the dyke and the grass park. Sign on will be at 6pm and they will be holding a skills session there instructed by Jen Bass; to be followed by a ride in Crumpet Woods. A great opportunity to explore more mountain bike trails in Squamish

The BBQ will be in Valleycliffe on Chestnut drive.
