Dead End Loop or Entrails & Icy Hole of Death-Which do you choose?

May 25th, 2009 · No Comments · Descriptions, Dirt Divas

There has been a change in the ride this week as the Mashiter Bridge is closed

Date: May 28
Time: 6:00 at Tantalus Bike Shop or 6:30 pm at the yellow gate at the end of Perth.

Place: Tantalus Bike Shop (if you want to ride up to Perth) or at the end of Perth.

Ride Length: 2-2.5 hrs

Difficulty: Easy-Intermediate

This week’s ride will link together a few short trails into a long loop. The route goes up Jack’s trail, then Alice Lake gravel road, up Bob MacIntosh, around Dead End Loop, down Bob MacIntosh Memorial trail, and back down Jack’s trail. The trails are generally easy with some short sections of more technical bits to keep you challenged. Be ready to ride uphill for at least one hour.

Difficulty: Advanced

The advanced ride will go up Jacks Trail & Mike’s loop, then down Entrails to Icy Hole of Death and back to Jack’s Trail.  Be ready to ride some very steep, sometimes loose sections.

Trails:

Jack’s Trail: this single track trail climbs at a moderate grade to Alice lake Park. It has a few rooty sections and one short bridge.

Dead End Loop:A nice little loop that is mostly smooth single track with a few short rooty or rocky climbs. Remember to shift your weight forward when climbing to keep your front wheel from popping up.

Bob MacIntosh Memorial:Is fairly smooth double track that descends (with one short uphill section) from Dead End Loop to Edith Lake.
Mike’s Loop: A short cross country trail that leads from Edith Lake past Credit Line and towards Entrails. The climb can be a bit challenging in the rooty sections.
Entrails: This is a fun, challenging trail that begins above Edith Lake and finishes near the Roller Coaster trail head. It starts out twisty and rooty with a few fun log sections. After a short technical climb, it begins to descend. The descent is steep and can be quite loose. There are tight corners, some of which are rocky and rooty.

Icy Hole of Death: Despite the name, this trail is less technical and steep than Entrails. It has a series of short steep and technical climbs and descents that bring you from partway along Entrails to Jack’s Trail.
